My first experience with Surrender

Updated: 2 days ago

When someone invited me to a weekend around surrender, I almost said no.

I still didn't really know what kink or BDSM was. Everything I thought I knew came from movies or TV. Looking back now, it had very little to do with what I was about to step into.

The word surrender didn't feel soft to me.

It felt dangerous.

Trusting people wasn't something that came naturally anymore after my divorce. My body had learned to protect itself. Stay in control. Stay alert. Don't fall.

And then I walked into a space where people talked about consent before anything else.

Needs.

Boundaries.

Choice.

Slowing down.

Nobody asked me to give up control.

Instead, I slowly discovered that surrender isn't about giving yourself away.

It's about letting go of the fight.

Trusting that, just for a moment, you don't have to carry everything by yourself.

That if you soften a little...

life might actually catch you.

That weekend I started to understand something I had never felt before.

Real surrender isn't weakness.

It takes courage.

It asks you to be honest enough to feel what is there, instead of controlling it or pushing

it away.

Sometimes that meant laughing.

Sometimes crying.

Sometimes simply breathing deeper than I had in years.

The slower we went, the safer my body felt.

And the safer I felt, the more I could let go.

Not because someone told me to.

Because my nervous system finally believed it was okay.

I left that weekend with more questions than answers.

But one thing stayed with me.

Maybe surrender isn't something you do for another person.

Maybe it's something you offer yourself.

A little less fighting.

A little more trust.

And somehow...

that changed much more than I expected.
